More than 100 fish have died after a pollutant entered a river, the Atmosphere Company has confirmed.
An investigation is ongoing into what brought about the air pollution within the River Bollin, close to Macclesfield, Cheshire, after foam appeared on the floor.
The company mentioned the pollutant entered the water on the outfall pipe close to to Sutton Shut, however investigations have been “ongoing to know the supply”.
United Utilities said it was “not associated” to its operations within the space.
An Atmosphere Company (EA) spokesperson mentioned: “We’re conscious of the circumstances surrounding this incident and have recognized the place the pollutant entered the river, nonetheless investigations are ongoing to know the supply.”
Atmosphere officers, fisheries and ecology specialists stay on-site to collect additional proof, in addition to perceive the impacts on the river, the EA confirmed.
